Coracle Making Courses

Coracles or currachs as they are known in Scotland are one of the earliest recorded boats dating back to the early Bronze Age over 4,000 years ago. They are a ‘skin-on-frame’ construction, the frame usually being made of woven sticks or split laths & the skin being a cow or bull hide which has then been stretched across the frame, or nowadays, canvas.

Watch a film about the coracle here and find out more about our 2022 courses, including dates & prices here.

Jane Wilkinson

Jane is one of Scotland’s finest willow weavers & one of the few people in Europe who can teach coracle making. She has a wealth of teaching experience spanning over 20 years & has exhibited work throughout Scotland I internationally.

Jane says: “Passing on the time-honoured techniques of basketry to the next generation is important to me. I am constantly inspired by what people can achieve on my courses & the enjoyment they have in reconnecting to nature through the process of foraging & harvesting the materials they need to create their basket.”
